We went to Old Shawnee Days yesterday to taste the carnival foods. The only carnival food I have eaten before was funnel cake. So, I decided to try different kinds of food last night.
The carnival is held annually and this was the first time we went there (so shameful, I know).
Now, the first thing I ate was corn dog. I chose a vendor who had a long line and decided that it might be good.
The corn dog was warm, so it was easy to eat. As if I were to eat hot dog, I put some ketchup and mustard on it.
The outer layer (the batter) did not taste anything. I thought at least they put some seasonings on it. Then I bite the 'dog'. Yeah, it was like regular hot dog I could get in the grocery store. I couldn't tell more. My husband had to finish it for me. :(
Second thing I bought was a fried snicker. I've never had a fried snicker before, so this was truly an adventure for me.
Whoever thought of frying a snicker in the first place was a true foodie. It was delicious! The batter was similar to the corn dog, but the snicker was melted and stuck to the batter from inside. It gave a different twist. I felt like eating a warm chocolate bread. It was a great dessert. :)
Never leave the carnival without eating funnel cake. It's the true carnival food, besides corn dog or cotton candy.
There was one vendor selling funnel cakes as their main selling item. They charged $5 for it.
But when we walked a little farther and just around the corner, we saw a $4 funnel cake. :)
The funnel cake tasted like doughnut with powdered sugar, but tastier. I liked the crispiness and how it matched well with the powdered sugar.
My kids enjoyed it just like they enjoyed fresh fried doughnuts. :)
So, to wrap my review, I would say this was an exciting place to try out "junk food". :)
However, they were expensive! Next time I go to a carnival, I will probably just buy the snicker and funnel cake. The fun of eating carnival foods. *grin*
